The PGA Tour’s prestigious THE PLAYERS Championship (TPC) has been played at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, part of greater Jacksonville, for 44 consecutive editions since relocating there in 1982.
38 Football Championships
Jacksonville’s football tradition runs deep, with local programs and professional teams combining for 38 major football championships. That legacy includes 34 FHSAA state football titles from Jacksonville/Duval County high school programs, led by Bolles with 11, University Christian with 9, Trinity Christian with 9, Raines with 4, and Mandarin with 1. It also includes four professional indoor and arena football championships from the Jacksonville Sharks, including the 2011 ArenaBowl XXIV title and National Arena League championships in 2017, 2019, and 2023.
21,200 Runners
The 49th annual Gate River Run in March 2026 drew more than 21,200 participants across all races, reinforcing its status as one of Jacksonville’s signature sporting traditions and one of the region’s most celebrated running events.
